Kwacha Kum’mawa was established in 2001 in Chipata as a grassroots initiative focused on expanding access to education opportunities, information, and socio-economic prospects for women and young people. Since its inception, it has evolved into a registered non-profit, non-partisan, community-based organisation operating across Eastern Province and beyond.
The organisation is formally registered in Zambia under the NGO Act No. 16 of 2009. Headquartered in Chipata, Kwacha Kum’mawa is committed to advancing public interest and fostering sustainable community development, with a strong emphasis on women empowerment, youth development, and other vulnerable groups.
We tackle systemic social and economic challenges through programmes in education, digital inclusion, health, and community empowerment. Our initiatives are guided by the values of integrity, inclusivity, accountability, and collaboration—ensuring that communities are not just recipients of support but active partners in shaping their own development.

Governance Structure
Kwacha Kum’mawa is guided by a democratically instituted Board of Directors comprising five distinguished members who provide policy leadership, oversight, and strategic direction. The organisation’s operations are managed by a professional Secretariat led by the Executive Director, ensuring effective implementation of programmes in line with the Constitution and Board policies.
Our founding members, together with eight additional colleagues serving on our advisory board, provide essential support in fundraising, strategic direction, and the development of strong national and international partnerships.
